A pub that is just a stone throw away from Euston Station, which many people have never been to, has won a major CAMRA Award. The North London Branch of CAMRA, the Campaign for Real Ale, has awarded The Crown & Anchor, in Drummond Street, the Summer Pub of the Season Award, choosing it from hundreds of real ale pubs in the Branch area.

John Cryne, from the local CAMRA branch, said, “This pub has made great strides in the quality of their cask ale over the last year or so. The pub has an enthusiastic landlord, which has been key to their success so we are delighted to recognise Pawel and his team by awarding them our Summer Pub of the Season”.

John added, “Four handpumps, often with some from independent breweries, this Grade II listed pub is light and airy but offers a cosy and welcoming atmosphere. It’s well worth seeking out. And it makes a great stopping off place if you are visiting the South Indian restaurants close by”.

The Crown and Anchor has been operating since the 1820s and it remains a rare survivor of the modernisation and station expansion. In the 1960’s, when Euston’s Doric Arch was demolished and, more latterly, the extensive demolitions tied to the High Speed 2 (HS2) railway construction, led to multiple premises including pubs and other businesses being closed. However, the Crown and Anchor is still here!
