The Masons Arms in Kensal Green NW10 is under threat from demolition

Monday 4 May 2026

The Masons Arms, 665 Harrow Road, Kensal Green NW10, is under threat from demolition.

A planning application (ref: 26/0807) has been submitted to Brent Council to demolish the existing pub building and replace it with a six storey development containing a new pub at ground level and 26 residential units above. While the proposal includes relocating the listed trough and repairing the listed boundary wall, the demolition of the original pub would mean the permanent loss of an important heritage asset and community venue.

Comments are open only until 28 May, so time is very short. If you value the Masons Arms and want to help protect it, please consider submitting an objection to Brent Council. Your objection can make a difference and help save the pub from demolition. Planning permission will be needed to demolish the pub, or for change of use. You can find help on the CAMRA website - how to save you local pub: https://camra.org.uk/campaign-resources/saving-your-local-pub-england-13543

You can object by searching for application 26/0807 on the Brent Council planning portal and submitting your comments online - link to planning application: https://pa.brent.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=neighbourComments&keyVal=DCAPR_176988

Brent Council’s Local Plan (and the London Plan) require developers to demonstrate that a pub is no longer viable before redevelopment or demolition can be justified. The Lease was not advertised for sale after the pub closed in 2024. Key points you may wish to raise include:

  • Loss of a historic pub building and community asset
  • Demolition being unnecessary when refurbishment or sensitive redevelopment could retain the original structure
  • Impact on local character and streetscape
  • Concerns about overdevelopment and scale of the proposed six storey building
  • Risk that the replacement pub space may not be viable or genuinely like for like

listed building consent, relating to the Grade II listed horse trough next to the pub, details below. There are concerns this development will harm the grade II listed trough. The horse trough would have been used by horses delivering beer to the pub c1900s.
