See more about this pub on WhatPub, CAMRA's national pub guide.

May 2022 - our reporter says, "Pub beer range now six real ales. Youngs Original Taylors Landlord seem fixtures. There are three Purity Beers (two coming soon) Ubu, Gold and Mad Goose. Finally there is Snozzle Proper Job. Landlady is struggling for staff(including cellarman and kitchen team). Great friendly pub though and reasonable prices for this bit of London."

There are now three televisions and a juke box. Clearly refurbished on the change of ownership but with the exception of the additional electronic devices the same feel as before. The number of beers on can fluctuate.

Following the sale of the pub to Punch and the retirement of the long-standing licensee before Xmas 2021, it is fair to say that this pub is going though some changes. On a visit in mid-January 2022 only one cask beer was available - London Pride (can't imagine that's a beer ever before seen in this pub!), trade is this area still suffering from Covid restrictions. However at the beginning of April more beers could be found and these are the ones currently listed.

The kitchen is (Feb 2022) closed but it is planned to reopen. The function room is still in use eg the folk club is meeting there.

On the corner with Wren Street, where pavement seating is available, this comfortable, single bar pub is popular with locals and office workers alike. In 1830, it was used as a temporary magistrates' court after the first recorded murder of a policeman on duty. Young’s bought the pub in 1984 but in 2021, as part of a larger sale, it was bought by Punch. TV for sports news coverage, and no music. Three times local CAMRA Pub of the Year while owned by Young's.
